Why I Started This YouTube Channel  

I first came up with this idea back in 2023. I was all in, ready to go, but then I talked myself out of it. I shared my vision with someone, and let’s just say their reaction wasn’t the most supportive. They made it seem like this wasn’t a good idea, and I let that doubt get to me.  

But guess what? That idea never left my mind. It kept coming back, over and over.  

So at the beginning of 2024, I told myself, “This is the year I’m doing this.” But then, life… life’d. 😩 2024 was one of the hardest years for me, and I simply didn’t have the capacity to take on anything extra. I was just trying to survive.  

Now that I’ve made it to 2025, I refuse to keep pushing my dreams aside. This was a second-quarter initiative for me, but what better way to celebrate four years in business than by finally launching the YouTube channel I’ve been dreaming about?  

What Is Sonay & Co.?  

If you’re new here, welcome! Let me introduce you to Sonay & Co. is a luxury email marketing boutique company – curating customer-centric email marketing experiences for women-owned small businesses. 

So, if you know a woman in business who needs help connecting with her audience, increasing sales, and building brand loyalty, send her my way. That’s what I do. Period. 💁🏽‍♀️  

 My Journey: How Sonay & Co. Started  

When I launched Sonay & Co. four years ago, let me tell you—it has been a rollercoaster.

I had my entire website built, and then, right before launch, my laptop crashed and erased everything. I didn’t back up a single thing (rookie mistake, I know). When I took it in to get fixed, they told me, “This is gone.” I was devastated.  

But I refused to let that stop me. Plan B? I got creative with Canva, threw together a quick website, and launched anyway. And now, here we are—four years later, still growing, still evolving, and still making an impact.  

How I Got Into Email Marketing  

People always ask me, “How did you get into email marketing?” Well, the truth? I prayed about it.  

I’m from Detroit, and I remember driving up Jefferson, talking to God, saying, “If you give me a business, I will not quit on it this time.” And I meant it.  

Before email marketing, I was actually a hairstylist. I am a licensed cosmetologist. Hair and beauty are still my passions, but I struggled with self-doubt. I kept thinking, “What if they don’t like my work?” That fear held me back.  

I also thought my hairstyling career would take off faster than it did. I didn’t understand that consistency is key in business. When things didn’t move as fast as I expected, I gave up on that dream.  

So, I asked God for a new vision—something I could truly commit to. And email marketing was the answer. At first, I was confused. I thought, “God, are you sure? This is really what you want me to do?” But He kept showing me that this was exactly where I needed to be.  

How My 9-to-5 Prepared Me for Entrepreneurship  

Looking back, I can see how God was preparing me for this.  

Even in my corporate job, I was unknowingly developing the skills I use in my business today. I got really good at writing professional emails. Why? Because I hated talking to rude customers on the phone. 😆  

At first, I would send these long, detailed emails with big words, thinking I was being professional. But I quickly realized nobody was reading them. They would still call me with the same questions. So, I had to learn how to write short, clear, and effective emails that actually got results.  

That skill? It became the foundation for what I do now. Great email marketing is all about clear, engaging, and strategic messaging.
